BIYC Work Incentive Program: [return]
We need your help! Below is a list of projects, tasks, and functions that make a great yacht club great. Plan to pick a couple of these programs to reduce your WIP assessment and become part of the heritage of Bainbridge Island Yacht Club!
This list will be added to as time goes by. Please consider giving your time and effort to these valuable programs. It is the heart of the volunteer that makes ALL organizations flourish.
- BIYC “BOCK”: The BIYC “BOCK” (short for boat and dock) requires periodic maintenance and up keep as it takes a good “weathering” at its location at the intersection of A and D docks. The work would include manual labor and carpentry skills.
- Eagle Harbor Marina Club House: BIYC leases the club house from the Eagle Harbor Marina Condo Owners Association for consideration of $500 per year, covering parties, meetings, Friday Night club house events, etc. etc. We are required to provide an additional 40 hours of “labor” to keep the club house in tip top condition (or we will have to pay an additional assessment to the condo association for club house use). Having a club house that is in tip top condition makes a powerful statement about who we are to your guests and prospective members. We share this space with Eagle Harbor Yacht Club who shares in our responsibility to maintain the club house an surrounding grounds. These events (and there will be a variety of them throughout the year) is for manual labor, carpentry, painting, etc. and may be in conjunction with Eagle Harbor Yacht Club members.
- General Club House and Grounds Maintenance: The Club House decks and approaches are in continual need of maintenance as our weather is tough on wooden decks. There is furniture and a large BBQ that gets regular use that would benefit from a regular maintenance cycle. This event would be general cleaning and manual labor. There will quarterly events scheduled for this task.
- Events Coordinator: Our events calendar is filled with events t hat require membership power to become memorable adventures for our members. This is an appointed position by the BIYC Commodore and successful completion of this duty (1 year commitment) waives the WIP Assessment from the participating member. It also provides you with one of the best volunteer experiences the club offers. If you think you have the right stuff for this job, contact the Commodore of BIYC.
- BIYC Boats: One of the most satisfying work programs we have (albeit probably the most physically strenuous) is the maintenance of our two 26’ Solings (Thing1 and Thing 2). The Yacht Club has a power dinghy (rigid hull inflatable with an 8 HP Outboard) that gets a work out during the season so it requires a good bit of maintenance attention. Events in this category will be scheduled throughout the calendar year. Contact Steve Sargent if you are interested in this event.
- Administration and Communications: There is plenty of opportunity to go around in this category to include, Web Page Content, Event Flyers, Newsletter Editor, Membership Handbook, Email and Postal Mail communications, Membership Management – the list is long. If this is your kind of event… there is plenty of need for your support.
- BIYC Board of Directors: BIYC BOD members that have not missed more than two board meetings in a given year, and have provided valuable leadership or service will have their WIP Hours waived. Consider volunteering to be a leader at Bainbridge Island Yacht Club. This event requires considerably more involvement than the WIP is trying to cover, but it will be the most fulfilling experience of your life. Contact any one of the board trustees to be considered for this task.
